Linfield College Adult Degree Program Announces the Induction of Twenty-Four Students into the Pi Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society (ASL)
Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society for adult learners in continuing higher education and is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship by recognizing high scholastic achievement in an adult students career.
ASL honors the academic excellence of adults who successfully balance the demands of school and other competing priorities of work, raising a family, and community involvement, said Janielle Losaw, Pi Lambda Chapter Councilor.
Linfield College established the Pi Lambda Chapter of ASL in 2012 in order to honor the exceptional academic accomplishments of its high achieving adult students. Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded at Northwestern University in 1946 and has over 300 chartered chapters throughout the United States, making it the oldest and largest chapter-based honor society for full and part-time students.
To be considered for chapter membership, a Linfield Adult Degree Program student must be seeking a bachelors degree, have completed a minimum of 24 credits at Linfield, be ranking among the top 20% of eligible students, and achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average.
The Linfield 2013 inductees have an average GPA of 3.92. Four students have earned a 4.0. They are completing their courses online in the Adult Degree Program and are majoring in one of the following fields of study; Accounting, Business Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Nursing, and Social & Behavioral Sciences.
The 2013 inductees to the Pi Lambda Chapter are true motivation to their co-workers, their children, grandchildren, their neighbors, and to other adults who wonder if it is possible to do well in college as a non-traditional student. It really is possible, said Janielle Losaw.
Thirteen of the students will graduate from Linfield College on June 2, 2013. They will wear their ASL honor cords at the commencement in recognition of their honor society membership.

The Grauer School announced that the 21-student graduating class of 2013 was offered $6.81 million in academic scholarships, a significant increase and new record. Last years 2012 graduating class of 18 graduates were awarded $4.8 million in scholarship offers. Each senior in this years graduating class of 2013 was offered an average of $324,000 in merit scholarships from prestigious collegiate institutions such as Miami University, New York University, University of Southern California, University of Puget Sound, Hofstra University, College of Wooster, University of British Columbia, and Lewis and Clark College.

Phagans Tigard Beauty School is offering scholarships to new students who enroll in one of our 2013 Cosmetology programs during our Summer Scholarship Program. Applicants can receive up to $400 off the regular tuition rates provided they have completed the application and submitted it by July 31, 2013.
"We wanted to offer an additional incentive for students to begin their training this summer," said John Olsen, owner of Phagans NW. "This will help our students get their careers started and still leave them some money to put towards purchasing the tools of their trade."
All applicants are eligible for the scholarships but space is limited so call our admissions office today to schedule an interview. All applicants are eligible for the scholarships but space is limited so call our admissions office today to schedule an interview. You can schedule your appointment with our Admissions Director by phone or online through our website. When you come in for your admission interview, our director will show you around the school, help with your Admissions packet and go over the enrollment process. To qualify applicants must be enrolled in one of Phagan's Beauty Schools programs by the end of July 2013 to satisfy the scholarship deadline requirements.
Tigard cosmetology students applying for school in June and July can save on any of our 2013 courses being offered at the Phagans Beauty School in Tigard, Oregon provided they are eligible and meet any other scholarship requirements.
Beauty School Financial Aid | FAFSA
Phagan's Beauty School is proud to accept and apply your Federal Financial Aid (Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and PLUS Loans) to the tuition costs for your selected courses. To apply for financial aid including scholarships, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly referred to as the FAFSA.
Completing the FAFSA is easy! We have a link to the FAFSA website on our financial aid page along with other helpful links to assist you in the application process.
Students will need to include Phagans' Tigard Beauty School code (Tigard Campus 013130) when completing the FAFSA. Once you submit it online, Phagans' Beauty School Tigard NW Admissions & Financial Aid Offices will receive an electronic copy from the federal government and begin processing your enrollment paperwork, including any aid available to you.

Thank you for writing. This is an excellent question. I could just say yes to both but I would like to explain our philosophy.
I consider each student unique so instead of just some canned approach we work with each student to help them achieve specifically what they want with regards to trading. We have both career traders who trade for a living as their job, and part-time traders who augment their monthly income. What matters most is a willingness to learn and practice and to consider this relationship a partnership. We both need to work hard to help you succeed; you and TechniTrader(R) are a partnership.
It will not happen overnight or over a weekend. Our courses are set up in semester style but you take them at your own pace and in your own home. It is in 3 phases, the first is a set of training DVDS that come with corresponding course Manuals. Next is the Mentoring Phase where you are in a group, interaction is not required but you can ask questions. In this second phase I give out Daily Lessons, post Notes on stocks I am currently looking at, and I write a Market Open Report and a Market Condition Report every day as additional learning tools. Students absolutely rave about this second phase of the course. Finally there is Simulator Trading until you have achieved at least a 70% success rate consistently before going live in the market. Many Students achieve 80-90% as they find reaching the recommended Simulator Trading success rate a challenge they enjoy.
Many students have quit jobs and done trading full time, others are at home for a variety of reasons and this provides a means of income for them.
TechniTrader(R) programs are very individual and tailored to meet specific needs. Since this is not just something we pull off the shelf, but custom make for each student, we do need more information from you to make sure that our training is right for you. There is no point in you buying something that you later realize isn't right for what you wish to do. By doing a consultation, we can recommend the correct path of study or direct you to where you can get that information. We do not have commissioned sales people, only consultants. I can't stand pressure sales people so I don't want my new students to feel that kind of pressure, either we are right for you or we are not.

She explains that she needed to add another website where she can share online business ideas and money making ideas from various affiliate programs as well as small business owners.

Alexander Salahshoar Comments On New Educational Tools for Chefs
Alexander Salahshour, who is a chef and caterer, is issuing a statement to the press about a new way to learn how to cook. With the rise of tablets and smartphones, it is easier than ever to begin to learn the basics of cooking. A new article explains how a startup based in San Francisco called Feast is helping to make cooking lessons more accessible.
David Spinks, the co-founder and CEO of Feast, explains that he wanted to take popular online education methods in order to develop a platform specifically for cooking lessons. The tool centers around a community where students can ask questions and get tips on preparing popular dishes. The online community also helps to keep users engaged. Spinks notes that his goal for the technology was to create something exciting, as opposed to an extremely technical system.
Spinks states, "We wanted to take the entertainment value you get on television, but create a format where you can actually learn. There is a problem with the Food Network. It's entertaining you, but they're not really teaching you how to cook. They're selling you a lifestyle. We're actually trying to get you in the kitchen."
Feast recently began its first online cooking course, which lasts for four weeks and focuses on the basics of cooking, such as knife skills and braising. Jeremy Umansky, Feast's in-house chef, teaches the course, which allows students to work at their own pace using text, photos, and videos in order to develop the skills necessary to become a more proficient chef.
Alexander Salahshour comments on this new development in the cooking industry stating, "Feast has the potential to really get aspiring chefs cooking and producing delicious meals. This type of technology didn't exist when I was coming up, but I wish it had. Instead of just having to learn by trial and error, you can get guidance on the various processes involved in cooking. It's ideal for those who aren't quite sure that they want to enroll in culinary school, but are still hoping to learn their way around the kitchen."
While the lessons prove useful for new chefs, the community discussions are also an important part of the learning process. Umansky engages with his pupils on the message boards, but students also learn by providing guidance and talking to one another. In many cases, they will resolve a problem before the instructor even has a chance to respond. This kind of learning helps pupils to retain the information and stay focused on their progress.
Alexander Salahshour states, " Reading recipe books is a useful way of learning, but it can often become frustrating when the chef has questions that he or she can't get answered. This platform provides support and guidance, but still allows a person to learn at his or her own pace." Alexander Salashoar calls this piece of technology "innovative."

Alexander Salahshour is a professional chef who owns his own catering company, Catering by Alexander. He began his career as a sous chef at a restaurant, before moving on to fill the role of executive chef at an area restaurant. While the lessons prove useful for new chefs, the community discussions are also an important part of the learning process. Umansky engages with his pupils on the message boards, but students also learn by providing guidance and talking to one another. In many cases, they will resolve a problem before the instructor even has a chance to respond. This kind of learning helps pupils to retain the information and stay focused on their progress.
Alexander Salahshour states, " Reading recipe books is a useful way of learning, but it can often become frustrating when the chef has questions that he or she can't get answered. This platform provides support and guidance, but still allows a person to learn at his or her own pace." Alexander Salashoar calls this piece of technology "innovative."

William Peace University Launches Criminal Justice Major
William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that the institution has expanded its educational offerings with the addition of its criminal justice major. The William Peace University Criminal Justice Program will consist of interdisciplinary courses that will provide students with insight into the conditions - psychological and sociological - that lead to criminal behavior. Additionally, the program will cover components of the U.S. slegal system as well as forensics.
The Criminal Justice Program is comprised of 39 hours. Students will be required to meet 18 hours of criminal justice core courses and nine hours of elective courses. Additionally, students will complete 12 hours toward The Raleigh Experience, which will provide a hands-on learning opportunity for students to work alongside area professionals in fields specifically related to criminal justice.
The Raleigh Experience will allow students in their senior year to complete an intensive, 40 hours per week co-op program. Through the program, students will be expected to work for three areas related to the criminal justice concentration, which includes advocacy and lobbying, governance, law, nonprofit administration, politics, policy research, and public administration. During that time, students will additionally rotate through three five-week practicums.

Students enrolled in the Gifted Education Foundations College Access Program (GCAP) have received $2.2 million in scholarships and subsidized funding. Out of 29 students in Gifteds first cohort of graduating high school seniors, 20 students have received college scholarships and 28 have been accepted into colleges.

Carousel Day School Comments the Importance of Early Education in Relation to President's Recent Economic Report
For the staff at Carousel Day School, early education is a critical point of development among students. For this reason, the Long Island-based facility has become noted for its emphasis on early education, as the school serves the need of preschool to teenage students. While institutions, such as Carousel Day School, have allowed parents to witness the benefits of early education, a recent report from The New York Times suggests that this segment of academics is not gaining proper attention by the nation and the government.
The article suggests that the recent Economic Report of the President released in March focused too much on developing higher education with the U.S. For example, the article states, "The report restated the president's vow to increase the number of college graduates 50 percent by 2020, and laid out how the federal government has spent billions in grants and tax breaks to help ease the effects of rising tuition and fees." In its press statement, Carousel Day School comments, "Through our dedication to fostering young minds in early education programs, we have found that students can truly progress a greater deal if they are exposed to academic opportunities before entering the traditional school system at the kindergarten level."
While the article credits Obama and his administration for observing the importance of early education, it reveals that there are not any concrete plans in funding to make universal preschool a reality. Specifically, "Public spending on higher education is more than three times as large as spending on preschool, according to O.E.C.D. data from 2009. A study...found that in 2008 federal and state governments spent somewhat more than $10,000 per child in kindergarten through 12th grade. By contrast, three- to five-year-olds got less than $5,000 for their education and care. Children under three got $300."
Although The New York Times may paint a disappointing picture in terms of the national focus on early education, Carousel Day School explains that parents can still take responsibility for encouraging academic instruction for their young children. "There are a plethora of educational preschools--apart from day care--that can offer unique academic experiences for young children. Parents who cannot find these resources can also take education into their own hands and create learning opportunities through their own means, as an alternative," Carousel Day School concludes in its press statement.

St. Claret began the great work of starting a Congregation The Claretians on July 16th 1849. Since then, the Claretians have been rendering various services specially the educational service. The Educational ministry began in Tamilnadu at Karumathur area since 1982 onwards. The School is in the 29th year of its existence. It has 60 Teaching Staff, 10 Supportive Staff and 2226 Students. Besides this, we also have an English medium Nursery-Primary school with 22 Staff and 500 Students; and a Tamil medium Primary school with 24 Staff and 495 Students functioning as separate schools in Karumathur.

According to the CDC, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, The first step in preventing school violence is to understand the extent and nature of the problem. In the CDC's Youth Violence Facts at a Glance, 20.1% reported being bullied on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey. Doesn't this suggest that our children need support in peer to peer relationships, self esteem and alternative strategies for controlling our anger.
"I know watching the events of Newton, Ct. unfold changed me forever. I am a father of two elementary school aged children and when I put them on the bus in the morning, I need to expect they are safe," said Kris Wilson, owner of MVP Minds LLC.

NY school liability for student injury tied to control over event
Whether a New York school district is responsible for a student getting hurt at a school-related function depends on how much control the district has over the activity, says a recent appeals court opinion. If the school has enough control over what is happening at the event that it could monitor and stop negligent activities or dangerous behavior that could cause an accident or injury, then it may be liable if it does not fulfill its duty to prevent negligent harm when someone is injured as a result.
The Germantown example
In 2009, a five-year-old girl was injured at a "Family Fun Night" at a school in the Germantown Central School District when she climbed on a 70-pound "pinscreen" that subsequently fell over. According to the Register-Star News, tragedy struck and she sustained a traumatic brain injury.
Her parents filed a personal injury lawsuit alleging school-district liability for their daughter's injuries. They also sued the event's sponsor, the Germantown Central School District Parent Teacher Student Association, referred to as the PTSA. (The Register-Star also mentions that the inventor of the screen was sued, but the appellate opinion does not mention him.)
The defendant district and PTSA moved the New York trial court to grant summary judgment in their favor, which is a judicial declaration that the facts of the case are not in dispute and that those undisputed facts can only support a judgment of no liability against the defendants. The court denied that motion and on appeal, the appellate court agreed with the trial court, finding that questions of fact still needed to be resolved at a trial.
School control
The parents alleged that the school district and the PTSA did not adequately supervise and oversee the pinscreen activity. It was also claimed that the PTSA, which arranged for the equipment to be at the event, was negligent in failing to see that the exhibit was unsafe and posed an "unreasonable risk" of harm.
The school district countered that it did not "direct or control" the event, so it did not owe any duty to the people at the event and was not liable for the little girl's injuries. The appellate court disagreed, finding that factual questions existed that needed to be answered at trial on the issue of whether the district had the degree of control over the Family Fun Night that gave rise to a duty to keep people safe from negligent conditions or circumstances.
The appellate court cited several possible factors that would tend to show school-district control of the event:
- Whether the district had to give permission for the activity to be held on school property
- If at the same time and place as the PTSA event, the district was holding a science fair, and the two events were advertised together by the district
- If school-district employees assisted with Family Fun Night preparation
- Whether a school nurse in attendance was present in an official capacity
Similar findings were made in conjunction with the claims against the PTSA.
Settlement reached
The Register-Star reports that after the appellate court refused to grant the summary judgment motion made by the school district and the PTSA, the parties settled the case out of court. The amount of the settlement is not mentioned in the article and is likely confidential.
