Higher Ed CRM Firm TargetX Spins Off Its Campus Visit Consulting Division

After seven years of improving the way colleges treat their visitors, the innovative Campus Visit Consulting Division of higher ed CRM firm TargetX is being spun off as its own company, called Render Experiences.

The new company will be led by Jeff Kallay, who pioneered the campus visit audit in 2006 and has become higher education's best-known authority on in-person experiences and their critical role in recruiting students.

"While Render Experiences will be its own entity, TargetX will retain part ownership of the company and we will continue to work together to challenge the industry with new ideas," said TargetX CEO Brian Wm. Niles. His announcement came at the opening of CIVSA's annual conference in Alexandria, Va. The Collegiate Information & Visitor Services Association is the nation's leading organization for campus visit professionals.

"We believe so much in the services that the Campus Visit Consulting Division was providing and see so much potential for growth, that we felt it needed to be its own company with its own brand," said Niles. "And we felt that Jeff needed the freedom and flexibility to lead the company himself."

Kallay joined TargetX in 2006 as its "Experience Evangelist," an unorthodox title to reflect his unique role -- focusing on the critical function of face-to-face interaction, especially campus tours and other in-person events. Four years later he became Vice President of TargetX's consulting division.

Kallay will serve as CEO of Render Experiences, which he named after realizing how often he advises client schools, "Don't just say who you are, render who you are."

"Our team will remain committed to helping colleges stage recruitment and yield experiences that connect with best-fit students and help schools reach their enrollment goals," said Kallay, whose work has been featured in some of the country's leading newspapers and magazines. "Render will focus on the campus visit and TargetX will focus on being the leading cloud-based CRM for higher education."

Kallay's plan is to have the new company up and running independently in time for college admissions' preeminent conference, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), in September.

"TargetX and Render will continue to do individually what we've been able to do together for the past seven years," said Niles. "We'll continue to help colleges overthrow dead culture."

The Downtown Project plans to expand the 9th Bridge School year by year from early childhood-only to a full K-12 offering, depending on enrollment fluctuation and other factors. School Specialtys current work for the early childhood center can be extended as the school grows.

GEEO Offers Professional Development Graduate Credit Program

Ardmore, Pennsylvania Global Exploration for Educators Organization, founded in 2007 to provide travel opportunities for teachers , launched a multi-tiered system that allows educators to receive credit for their discounted teacher travel through professional development or college credit units. The system was developed as a graduate partnership program to allow teachers to earn as many credits as possible toward a graduate degree, professional development requirements, or both.

At the end of each teacher travel experience , professional development certificates are issued at no cost to participants. Each state will determine how many PLUs the teacher receives given the length of the trip and the work undertaken to create lesson plans and share experiences.

Participants may choose to enroll in a three-hour credit graduate course for each trip through Northern Illinois University. These credits are offered as an interdisciplinary studies course and may transfer to another degree program. Participants are required to complete certain course requirements in order to earn credit. Depending on the teachers school system and state, travel grants for teachers may be available and applied to the costs of this program.

Students should register for Course Number IDSP 501. The course will take place between June 17th and August 7th, 2013, with registration between April 1 and June 1. Participants must enroll as a Student-at-Large with the University and complete all required paperwork. The cost for the three-hour course is $1,100.00, which includes travel insurance for the trip, instructional fees and an ITIC travel card as well as one official transcript copy upon completion of the course. Participants will be allowed two semesters to complete course requirements, and all coursework must be turned in by December 1. Grades will be issued by December 15.

Teachers who participate in the program are required to complete several course requirements including keeping a reflective journal and submitting copies of lesson plans and outreach efforts to share their experiences. A complete course syllabus and requirements are available upon request for teachers interested in earning three hours of graduate credit with this program.
GEEO makes it possible for teachers not only to travel on teacher tours to unusual destinations but also to meet educators in these other lands and share their classroom experiences with them. When they return, educators have the opportunity to bring their experiences back into their United States classrooms and share what they have learned about other cultures with their students and communities.

Calestous Juma is Professor of the Practice of International Development and Director of the Science, Technology, and Globalization Project. Juma is a former Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and Founding Director of the African Centre for Technology Studies in Nairobi. He is co-chair of the African Union's High-Level Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation and a jury member of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. Warrington based Penketh High Schools parody of Gangnam Style features over 50 teachers who have given up their own time before and after school to create the film as a celebration of the schools success over the past twelve months.

Head Teacher, Mr Jeff Hughes, who retires at the end of the academic year, promised in December that if students hit their targets he would perform the famous dance. He now feels as though he has become a local celebrity over night. He has appeared on ITVs Daybreak live, local Granada news and several radio stations. He said, This has been a fantastic year for the school. Thanks to the hard work of the staff and students, we are now amongst the top 10% of improving schools in the country and this will be our best ever year in terms of exam results. I promised the students that if they hit all of their targets I would dance Gangnam Style and here we are!

I have been astonished by the reaction to the film, never in a million years did I expect so much attention! It is fantastic for the school and its a great memory for me on a personal level too.

Teachers Awarded More Than $70,000 In Classroom Grants Through Business Investments In Partnership

Wake Education Partnership (http://www.wakeedpartnership.org/) awarded more than $70,000 in classroom grants for 34 Wake County Public School teachers for the coming year thanks to local business investments. The Partnership announced grants to individuals and teaching teams in Innovative Instruction at a program Wednesday, May 29. Grants are focused on the arts, dental health, early childhood literacy, math, life science, health, and nutrition and autism education. Additionally, two inaugural awards were made: the Dr. Sherri Merritt Literacy Scholarship and the Elizabeth Grimes-Droessler Arts Education Award.

Teacher Leadership Grants for the 2013-2014 academic year were made possible by Time Warner Cable, Biogen Idec., GlaxoSmithKline, Food Lion, Quintiles, the Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Duke Raleigh Hospital and VantageSouth Bank.

The Teacher Leadership Grants program is one of the Partnership's longest-running programs, allowing the business community to invest close to $1 million into the classroom during the past 26 years.

Grant applications were reviewed by a committee of volunteers from Wake County's business leaders and educators. Criteria included the sustainability of a program, contributions to professional development and improved student achievement. Recipients and team leaders of Teacher Leadership Grants for the 2013-2014 school year are:
